Parliament has announced a special plenary sitting scheduled for Wednesday to pay tribute to the late Ngora District Woman Member of Parliament, Stella Apolot Isodo, who passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026, in Kampala.
According to the Order Paper issued by Parliament’s Directorate of Communications and Public Affairs (CPA), the special sitting will begin at 2pm, following the arrival of Isodo’s body at Parliament at 10am.
The session will serve as Parliament’s official tribute to the late legislator, who had been battling a short illness prior to her death.
Speaker of Parliament Anita Among announced Isodo’s passing through her official social media platforms, where she expressed condolences to the family, constituents and colleagues of the deceased MP, noting that she had been unwell for some time.
Isodo was a member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and had represented Ngora District as Woman MP since 2021.
During her time in Parliament, she was known for her grassroots engagement and advocacy on issues affecting women and rural communities in Teso sub-region.
In the months leading to her death, Isodo had been campaigning to retain her parliamentary seat, although her efforts were disrupted by persistent health challenges.
In the recently concluded 2026 general elections, Isodo faced strong competition for the Ngora District Woman MP seat.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, Pedun Josephine, emerged winner with 17,010 votes.
The Democratic Party (DP)-backed candidate, Christine Abeja, came second with 12,152 votes, while Isodo placed third with 11,334 votes.
Her death has shocked the political community, with several MPs and political leaders paying tribute to her commitment to public service and her contribution to both local and national politics.
The special sitting on Wednesday is expected to be emotional, as legislators reflect on Isodo’s dedication to her constituents, her service to Ngora District, and her role in Uganda’s multiparty political landscape.
